Italiano: Nel settore degli apriscatole vi fu chi tentò soluzioni diverse dal sistema leva-taglio, utilizzato nei primi modelli. William W. Lyman di Meriden, nel Connecticut, brevettò il 12 luglio 1870 un apriscatole a rotazione circolare (US Patent 105.346), messo in produzione dalla ditta Baumgarten a partire dal 1890. Era necessario perforare il centro del coperchio della lattina con la punta dell'attrezzo, regolare la lama girevole nelle dimensioni volute con la vite a farfalla, praticare con un colpo netto il primo taglio del coperchio, quindi far girare in senso circolare la lama. Il suo uso richiedeva una certa forza e il modello fu abbandonato, anche se altre realizzazioni si ispirarono ai suoi principi.
