| Description |
English: Approaching Temple Lock, River Thames This shows the approach to Temple Lock from downstream. This was formerly a very difficult place for walkers, as the upstream walk above the lock could not be continued because the towpath changes sides, and the ferry above the lock had closed in 1953. There was nothing for it but a huge detour, either back into Marlow or by braving the yard of Low Grounds Farm, which in my experience in 1975 was several inches deep in cow manure. Now, however, (since 1989) a splendid new footbridge, very well designed and engineered to fit its surroundings, has been available just above Temple Lock so that the walker can continue his upstream progress with relatively clean boots. |
