Summary
[edit]DescriptionApproaching St. Albans City - geograph.org.uk - 1063792.jpg |
English: Approaching St. Albans City 47042 (Built in 1964) brings a train of Total oil tanks past St. Albans South signal box. The box was still in use as semaphore signalling remained in service on the midland mainline from St. Pancras. The box has subsequently been preserved - see http://www.jo37.btinternet.co.uk/sigbox/index.html for info. The lozenge shaped white plate on the semaphore signal in the foreground indicates that the signal is Rule K3 exempt. Rule K3 requires that the train crew contact the signal man if their train is held at a signal to remind him of its presence. In this case a track circuit is in place providing an automatic reminder for the signalman.
The Heath and Heather warehouse has been replaced by offices and the adjacent chimney has disappeared. The large office block beyond appears to have had a major facelift. |
