Title
Applique Mount FIXTURES AND FITTINGS
Description
English: Sheet silver scutiform (shield-shaped) pendant. Circular, with a central circular domed boss. There is a small circular perforation close to the edge for suspension. The front is divided into quadrants by the formation of a wide-armed diagonal cross defined by small, circular repoussé dots. There is an external border of the same dots, and a circular border round the central dome in the same style. Compare a copper-alloy example similar to the above but with a central conical rivet, found at Ixworth, Suffolk (MacGregor & Bolick 1993, 240-41 no. 47.11. Scutiform pendants are early Anglo-Saxon, and date to the sixth and seventh centuries AD.
