Description
English:

A tall apple tree with two main upright branches stands in a shady, wooded area.

The Richard Vaughn farmhouse was built in the 1870s by the Vaughn family. It is believed that the family lived elsewhere and rented out the farmstead. The earliest record of agricultural land use on the farm was in 1859, and it continued until the property was divided in 1890. At the northern edge of the farmstead, beyond a white pine grove, there are remnants of an apple orchard. Most of the apple trees have died and only a few trees remain. It is unclear if the orchard is part of the Vaughn Farmstead or a neighboring tract, since the date of subdivison is unknown. There also are two apple trees south of the barn and work shed. They are located in an overgrown area, and there may be remnants of more trees since the two that were inventoried were on the edge of the mown yard area.
