The percentage for the other counties of southern Californiafor the same division, is 2.1 per cent. REPORT OF TUBERCULOSIS COMMISSION. 35 TUBERCULOSIS IN CALIFORNIA HOSPITALS, SANITARIUMSAND INSTITUTIONS. Three hundred and fifty circular letters, asking for information inregard to number of patients cared for in California institutions duringthe past five years, terms, stages at which taken, facilities, etc., weresent to as many hospitals, state, county and institutional. Replies werereceived from 200, most of which were lacking in records for yearsprevious to 1911. The figures quoted for last year, however, may betaken as approximately correct for the institutions replying. One hun-dred and twenty-seven institutions replied that they take no tubercularcases, 71 stated that they take such cases in the first and second stagesfor the most part (incipient cases preferred), but nearly all intimatedthat they would receive patients suffering from the disease in any andall stages. Of these 71 institutions 25 are county hospitals, 4 are gov-ernment institutions, 10 are state hospitals, and
