Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This shows the distance that Apophis will fly past in 2029 as of the latest calculations using the JPL close approaches table looking it up December 2018.

For Earth it uses the Apollo 17 “The Blue Marble” photo. The Earth seen from Apollo 17 File:The_Earth_seen_from_Apollo_17.jpg

Bands calculated using the close approach data here: JPL Small-Body Database Browser https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?cad=1&sstr=99942#cad

In this image of Earth from space taken by Apollo 17 the Earth is 2657 pixels wide

The minimum value is now 0.000247515097583323 au = 37,027.73 km or 2.9 Earth diameters = 2657 *(2.9+0.5) = 9033 pixels from left side of image

Maximum value 0.000256837212164523 au = 38,422.3 km or 3.0154 Earth diameters = 2657 *(3.0154+0.5) = 9340 pixels from left
Compare geostationary orbit or 42,164 /12742 = 3.309 Earth diameters = 2657 *(3.309+0.5) = 10121 pixels from left

Though - not at that exact position - that’s just the distance at its closest.

Here is the position it flies past: https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/cZX7dPNYGvaNUjPqdeBNxF-650-80.gif
