Description
English: Figure 39 of On the Moon with Apollo 16: A Guidebook to the Descartes Region (NASA publication N72-19879, April 1972, by Dr. Gene Simmons), with caption:
Drive Tubes. These tubes, about 18 inches long, are pushed or driven into the lunar surface to
collect samples as a function of depth. A single tube is shown in the top of the figure, a double tube at the bottom. Two, three, or even four of them may be joined together to obtain a longer core. Their use in Apollo 14 may be seen in Figure 40.
