A sculpture of [[Apollo]] at [[Guntur Medical College]]

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Guntur Medical College (in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India) possesses two sculptures by Bellamkonda Venkateswarlu (20th century) which are inspired by ancient Greek sculptures: Apollo as an archer and Niobe trying to protect one of her daughters. The story from Greek mythology is best known from Ovid’s Metamorphoses: The twin gods Apollo and Artemis take revenge for their mother Leto who was insulted by Niobe claiming she had seven times as many children as the goddess. – The ancient sculptures which were freely reproduced by the Indian sculptor can be seen from the image gallery below.
