Summary
[edit]DescriptionApokak.jpg |
English: The 60 foot tug boat “Apokak” was built in the early 1900’s and later was owned and operated by Abner Sund who was born May 29th, 1892. The First Mate was Frank Mead who worked with Abner during the 1930’s. The tug mainly towed log rafts that were as long as a football field from Hood Canal to the Seattle mills and then towed the boom sticks back to where the lumberjacks were logging. Captain Abner also had a son named Ronald Sund who owned the 50-foot tug the “Peerless” which was built in 1910 and followed his father’s footsteps towing logs. Both tugs were mainly docked in Lake Union Seattle when not in use. The other location was where both father and son lived at Hoodsport Washington. On occasion, Abner would take the tug to the Seattle Seafair Hydroplane races on Lake Washington with friends and family on board. |
