Description
The Hekla was built in 1882 by Kockum's in Malmö (Yard no. 28) for the Danish Dampskibsselskabet Thingvalla ("Thingvalla Steamship Company") and used between Scandinavia and New York. She was delivered in February 1882 and had a very short career, foundering at the lighthouse of Færder in Norway in February 1883. A new Hekla was ordered - delivered the following year.
