Description |
Bemerkenswert ist das Spiel des Künstlers mit den Konventionen des Hofporträts. Die außergewöhnliche Größe des Bildes, die Säulen im Hintergrund, der Vorhang, die Anwesenheit eines schwarzen Jungen und eines Hundes deuten auf den hohen Rang der Dargestellten, andererseits ist Knyphausen im Schlafrock ohne Perücke, ohne Wappen oder Orden, dargestellt, wie Bemalung ein Theaterspaß. Inspiriert von venezianischen Meistern verwendet der Künstler großartige Farbkombinationen. Besonders sichtbar ist der Einfluss von Andrea Celesti, mit dem sich der Pesne in Venedig traf. Berliner Porträts Pesnes sind konventioneller und zeichnen sich durch die Verwendung der Farben und der Darstellung von Stoffen aus. [Ewa Manikowska] |

Friedrich Ernst von Knyphausen hielt sich als preußischer Diplomat 1700-1710 als Gesandter des Berliner Hofes in Venedig auf und ließ sich dort von Pesne porträtieren. Das Original verbrannte 1893 im Schloss Lütetsburg, im Nationalmuseum in Warschau wird die Skizze aufbewahrt und in Schloss Gödens eine Kopie von/nach (?) Pesne. Datierung von Porträt und die Skizze auf 1707 gehen auf den Bericht Oesterreichs zurück, in dem Friedrich I. das Werk 1708 in Berlin besichtigte. [Ewa Manikowska] |
