ANTIQUE VIEWS OF BOSTON. 47 THE BOXXKI: MAP. This map was drawn by Captain .John Bonner, and engravedand printed by Francis Dewing in 1722, and is the oldest map ofBoston in existance, showing the streets and prominent places.The original from which this was copied is preserved in the archivesof the Massachusetts Historical Society. The size of the platewas about 2 feet by 17£ inches, and was afterward- published byWilliam Price, with additions and emendations, in 1733, 1743 and17li(.l, and possibly in other years, as the date of the map wassometimes put upon it with writing-ink. This map was the basisof all other plans of the town for ninny years. William Price,who was interested in the sale of the map, had a shop ■• against yeTown House. He died in 1772, aged 87. There is a tablet tohis memory in King Chapel burying ground List of (he names of the prom! nail Places ami Streets of Bostonas shown on the Bonner Mop of 1722, and their presentnames and location in 1882.
