Description Situava-se na margem norte do rio Paraibuna, na divisa entre as capitanias de Minas Gerais e do Rio de Janeiro. Era administrado pela Junta da Real Fazenda do Rio de Janeiro, apesar de situado em território mineiro. Era um dos mais movimentados. É mencionado em 1726, 1735, 1756, 1766 e 1778. Foi minuciosamente descrito por John Mawe, que passou por ele em 1809.
