Español: "Medusa estaba considerada en la mitología griega como un ser terrorífico y odioso, alado y erizado de serpientes, que castigaba a todo el que la miraba convirtiéndolo en piedra. El héroe Perseo la decapitó ofreciendo la cabeza a Atenea, quien la llevaría en su escudo. De su sangre nacieron Pegaso, el caballo alado, y Crisaor, padre de Gerión. Con el tiempo Medusa pasó a entenderse como un ser de facciones más humanizadas, protector contra las fuerzas adversas y con ese sentido aparece en numerosos mosaicos domésticos romanos.
En el Antiqvarivm la vemos con cara regordeta y expresión amable destacando el ejercicio cromático de los tonos de la piel, el iris del ojo conservado en negro intenso para reforzar el elemento que la hacía más temible y los toques en azul de las alas, en teselas de pasta vítrea."
