Keep it, fossil fuels that is, in the ground. Well, I am not as down on the oil trains as some folks since so many people use gasoline to get to everything; including rallies like this. At least the oil that comes from North Dakota is from inside the US rather than shipped across the globe. Unlike the proposals for shipping coal, the oil from the oil trains is used domestically, as far as I know. Still, it would be nice if Americans and Canadians were using less fossil fuel. Then less need for things like oil trains and pipelines. We could use better public transit, for instance and, of course, bicycling. Seems like technology will save the day rather than people changing. I've been waiting for people to change ever since a book called "Death of the Automobile" came out in the 1970s. Old habits are hard to kill. People can change some, but changing technology is more likely. Solar power creating hydrogen fuel, and/or charging batteries. I still like biking for fun and health and it does take a few drops out of the carbon footprint. |
