Title
Anthropomorphic mount
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy mount, probably for a strap and possibly for harness use.

The mount has an anthropomorphic appearance consisting of the upper half of a face consisting of domed cranium/skull with perforations placed as eyes and a nose-like protusion. An arm emerges from the central top of the head with a trefoil terminal and a perforation in the central lobe.An oblong extension emerges from below the base of the nose, with perforation in the end.

A similar example has been found in Lincolnshire, LIN-EF4B51, though this has a more bear-like appearance. Its recorder, Adam Daubney, has argued on stylistic grounds a link with late Saxon harness equipment, dating the mount to the 11th century.

This example is more anthropomorphic than zoomorphic, but its manufacture and function appear to be the same.
