Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The oldest group of sculptures, known as the Telem, was supposedly crafted more than two hundred years ago in the same style as today. The Telem are distinguished by their exceptionally dynamic pose with arms raised upwards indicating a supplication for rain, or fertility. They are sometimes shown in a kneeling pose, mose often representing a woman. The Telem figures were kept in granaries, where sacrifices were offered to them; however, some have also been discovered in burial chambers - caves. Representations of anthropomorphic figures with elevated arms can be found on many objects, especially granary doors.
