A mounted Woodburrytype photograph taken from The South African Campaign of 1879 by MacKinnon and Shadboldt of Colonel Anthony Durnford of the Royal Engineers. In command of No. 2 Column during the first phase of the Anglo-Zulu War, Durnford was killed in action at Isandlwana on 22 January, 1879.
