Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This archaeological site in Arizona's Canyon de Chelly is called "Antelope House", in reference to nearby antelope pictographs. The ruins were constructed by the long-extinct Anasazi Indians. Reportedly, the site was inhabited from about 850 to 1270 A.D.

The rocks in the cliff are Permian-aged De Chelly Sandstone (pronounced "de Shay"), an ancient sand dune deposit.

Stratigraphy: De Chelly Sandstone, Leonardian Stage, Lower Permian

Locality: view from Antelope House overlook (Navajo Fortress overlook), northern rim of "Canyon del Muerto" (= Canyon of the Dead), Canyon de Chelly National Monument, northeastern Arizona, USA
