Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This statue, found in 10 pieces (in the South Bath in Perge) and some parts missing represents Hermes tying his sandal. Under his right foot a turtle: that animal was a first sacrifice on the day of Hermes' birth. And the turtle reminds us that Apollo made a stringed instrument from the turtle’s shell. An original of the scene is attributed to Lysippos of the Hellenistic period in the second half of the 4th century BC. This copy from the second century AD is the best and most complete, others are in Copenhagen, Parish, Munich and the Vatican.
