Summary
[edit]DescriptionAntakya Archaeological Museum Statue of Suppiluliuma sept 2019 5791.jpg |
English: Unearthed in the internal portcullis area of the Tayinat Mound. An epigraph in Luwian implies King Suppiluliuma was depicted who quite likely reigned in Tayinat in the Latew Hittite Period Patina/Unqi kingdom in the early part of the 9th century BC. Placing the statue there had a meaning of the king, as God-assigned protector, guarding the border and the society behind it.
Note: the date and explanation lead to the conclusion this is NOT King Šuppiluliuma I, who has an entry of his own in the Wikipedia, but reigned some 5 centuries earlier. |
