[edit]DescriptionAnother sad fellow- a Hamadryas Baboon (16258265847).jpg |
Despite his sad look in his rather crowded tiny enclosure, this gorgeous silver male Hamadryas baboon was a magnificent creature. Hamadryas baboons reach sexual maturity at about 51 months for females and between 57 and 81 months for males. The Hamadryas baboon is omnivorous and is adapted to its relatively dry habitat. During the wet seasons, the baboon feeds on a variety of foods, including blossoms, seeds, grasses, wild roots, and leaves from acacia trees. During the dry season, the baboons eat other leaves like sisal. Hamadryas baboon also eat insects, reptiles and small mammals. They are opportunist feeders and will snatch the young of other animals, including leopards whem mamma is not around. (Emirates Park Zoo, Samha, Abu Dhabi, Jan. 2015) |
