Title
annular buckle
Description
English: Cast copper alloy double-loop annular buckle with bevelled inside edge and narrowed pin bar which shows signs of wear in the centre where the pin hinge would have encompassed it. The pin is missing but would probably have been made out of small section of copper alloy sheet. The base and upper surface of the frame are flattened and the outside of the frame is convex so that the frame is D-shaped in section.
The buckle is 18.6 mm in diameter and 2.7 mm in thickness and the pin bar is 12 mm in length and 2 mm in thickness. The frame weighs 1.9 g.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example on page 45, No.255, which he dates to c.1350-1650.
Read (1988) illustrates a similar example on page 62, No.281, which is dated to c.1370-1500.
