Description
English: A copper alloy tinned proabably medieval annular brooch with a horned zoomorphic projection dating to the period c. AD 1150 - 1400. The brooch is broadly oval and pointed oval in cross section, the internal edge of the front face is bevelled. There is a recess to hold the attached pin and there is a knotch on the opposite end of the brooch to act as a pin rest. Adjacent to the pin rest the frame is bevelled and tinned on the front and reverse face flanking a composite alloy zoomorphic projection consisting of a expansion of the brooch on the reverse and a riveted seperate applied copper-alloy on the upper face. The projection depictes a horned zoomorphic creature with a central circular rivet. The curved horns, eyes and snout are visible along with transverse ridges which connect to similar ridges on the reverse. The pin survives and tapers to a point, it measures 47.65mm in length and tapers from a width of 4.95mm to 1.5mm. The front face of the pin is bevelled.

The brooch is 60.35mm in length, 46.3mm wide, 3.95mm thick and weighs 25.93 grams.
