It would seem that solong as the frauds of Jesuitism are connected with the Papal Mis-sions, they will form a chief obstacle to all mission W(irk. Themission at Shanghai has suffered greatly from the want of re-en-forcements, and Canton has two men less in her force than werethere two years since. But, during the present summer, three orfour additional men and as many unmarried women will, withGods blessing, give themselves to the work in China. The greatwant throughout all the fields in China, as elsewhere, is, that bless-ng of the Civine Spirit, without which all labor is vain.

T8 ANNUAL KEPOET. TJie Press. The fi)llowing is taken from a recent Report rendered by Mr.J. L. Mateer; At present, our regular font of type contains 6664 matrices for wTiolecharacters. Many characters can be separated into two parts—the radical andthe primitive. 12o0 matrices have been made for these radicals and primi-tives, and by combininfj them more than 17,000 of the less frequently usedcharacters can be made ; makino-, in all about 24,000 characters, a numberwhich answers for all ordinary purposes. Of these matrices four sizes havebeen made, viz: Double Small Pica, Double Brevier, Three-line Diamond, andSmall Pica ; and a fifth (Double Pica) is now being made. There are now inthe foundry over 30,0U0 matrices, which have all been made in the establish-ment. Eleven men are now at work making matrices and casting type.Last year 4,000 matrices were made, and an old font of 4,000 justified.
