an. From April 1st to the end of the year an average of 11 menhas been employed. In April, work was commenced in a 700 feet shaft in thesouthern part of this district, on a three feet fissure lead; sinkingwas continued and the shaft is now 125 feet deep. At a depth of65 feet, levels have been driven west 70 feet and east 20 feet, andat the bottom, levels have been driven west 40 feet and east 15feet. A small amount of stoping was done on the 65 feet level-hand-steel is being used. Surface.—A shaft-house and mill with concentrating annexhave been constructed, and the following machinery installed.One battery of 5 Matheson stamps (formerly in Black Hawk mill,Leipsigate.) One Blake rock-breaker, one Wilfly concentrating-table, one single-drum hoist, one Cameron sinking-pump, onesmall Northey pump, one boiler and engine. Malaga Barrens. W. J. prisk W. J. Prisk Manager. Face of 300 feet level lvi<t. on Foundation Lead. Empress Shaft, Renfrew. MINES REPORT 107 Operations were commenced at the west shaft on the centreor main Rabbit-lead on the 20thof July. This shaft was put downsome 15 or 20 years ago by John McGuire, it is 243 feet deep. Nowork underground has been done other than cleaning out the shaft,and renewing some of the timbers. On the surface, a shaft-house 46 by 20 feet has been built anda 15 H. P. boiler and a small single-drum hoist installed. On the Hard-lead, several prospect pits have been put down todepths ranging from 7 to 18 ft. HANTS COUNTY. eagle mining O. W. Kramer Manager. company H. F. Putnam Foreman. An average of 40 men has been employed during the year. No crushing was done during the year, operations being con-fined wholly to development and construction work.
