in any museum in this country and thesecond in the world. (The other is in the Paris Museum.)This animal equaled the great American Mastodon in bulk buthad shorter legs and a very long lower jaw. The trunk wasprobably supported beneath by the front of the jaw instead ofhanging free as in the short-jawed mastodons and elephants. A skeleton of the Fin-back reptile Dimetrodon, from thePermian of Texas, has been obtained by purchase and a series of supplementary skeletons, of the same genus,Permian, DUt jess complete, has been presented by the collector, Mr. Charles H. Sternberg. A valuableskeleton of a Pareiasaurian reptile from the Karroo formationof South Africa has been obtained through the good officesof Dr. Robert Broom. Mounting of three skeletons ofMoschops, commenced three years ago but interrupted for atime, has been resumed. This animal is a large reptile fromthe Karroo formation of South Africa, the group of skeletonsbeing a part of the Broom collection acquired by the Museum

Dr. Gregory, who has been making an especial studyof the anatomy of the limbs in early reptiles, has undertakento supervise the mounts. In this connection Mr. Charles Langhas devised a new apparatus for temporarily setting up and ad-justing to any desired pose the trunk and limbs of fossil skele-tons to be mounted. This enables us to adjust all parts of theskeleton exactly to the pose selected, and to make any desiredchanges rapidly and easily.
