Duringthe early part of last summer, I devised an elastic system in whichthe record numbers never lose their identity, but the file numbersare progressive. This required a complete set of new records andfile cases. It has involved a great deal of time and work and hasreached a point where all the papers have been sorted and placed innew file cases, but the work of recording each set of papers is stillto be done. Following the statement concerning interlocking devices will befound a list of thirty companies organized under the general railroadlaws of the State during the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1902. 42 Your attention is also called to several illustrations submitted bythe Chicago, Burlington & Quincy R. ZESIEDPOIEBT CONCERNING Physical Condition of Properties INSPECTED DURING YEAR 1902. 45 REPORT COVERING THE PHYSICAL CONDITION OF RAILROAD PROPERTIES INSPECTED DURING THE YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 1st, 1902. Atchison, Topera & Sante Fe Railway Co. The property of this company in this State was inspected during the monthof June. It consists of main line extending from Chicago to the Mississippiriver, a distance of 230.90 miles, and a branch line extending from Ancona toPekin, a distance of 52.53 miles. All of this mileage amounting to 283.43miles is composed of single track, excepting for 10.22 miles of double trackon the main line. With the exception of about 20 miles, the main line is laidwith 75 pound steel, most of which is practically new. It was expected the20 miles of 66 pound rail would be replaced with 75 pound rail by Dec. 1.The line is well ballasted with gravel and some broken stone. The Pekin branch is laid with second hand steel rails, principally 60 poundpattern. With the
