The contract was made November 27, 1907. On account of thesevere weather of the winter, the Board permitted the contractor todelay starting on this work until March 1, 1908. A second contract, extending from Kendall Street, through CypressStreet, to Boylston Street, a distance of 1,275 feet, was made withthe Hugh Nawn Contracting Company on November 25, 1907. Ofthis length, 940 feet will be in tunnel, in earth and Roxbury pudding-stone, and 335 feet in open trench. Work in the open cut sectionwas started December 2, 1907, on the south side of Boylston Street.At the date of this report 130 feet of trench have been excavated tograde.
