Fruit: Medium t olarge ; the samplephotographed wasgrown near Simcoe,Ont., and measured3; X 3f inches ; form,roundish oblique, withbroad obscure ribs ter-Newtown Pippin. minating in five crowns at the apex ; color, dull green, becoming yellowish green during the winter, with reddishbrown tinge on the sunny side, and dotted with small grey russety dots ; stalk,three-quarters ofan inch long, insertedall its length in a deep,wide funnel - shapedcavity ; calyx small,closed in a small, mod-erately deep basin. Flesh : Greenish-white; texture firm,crisp, juicy,:; flavor,rich and highly aro-matic. Season: Decemberto May, at its best inMarch. Value : Home mar-kets, good ; Britishmarket, first class. Quality : Cooking,first - class ; dessert,first-class. Adaptability : Onlyto certain favored sec-tions .

Thehardiness of the tree, the clean bright color of tlie fruit and its long keeping (juality seem tocombine in its favor as a commercial variety, especially in the colder sections. C. L. Stephens,<tf Orillia, fruited it in his garden in 1903, and says be kept samples until June. The specimenphotographed was sent us by him on the 16th of April, 1904, and was in line condition.Origin : K. (\ Hathaway, Ottawa, Illinois. Tree : Very hardy, pr(Kluctive, a slow grower, an early and an annual ))earer.Fruit: Size mediutn, the sample i)hotographed was large, 3x3 inches, but some growersreport it small ; form roundish, conical, somewhat angular or lopsided ; color bright red with stripes of darker red andnumerous small grey dots, on ayellowish ground ; when har-vested the skin is green, butduring the winter it takes onthe coloring above described
