-clumps are large it will be best to divide them up into clumps having from two>to four good strong eyes. This can be done by simply breaking away the one-section from the other with the hands. The use of the knife in this operationshould be avoided if possible. Pot the small clumps into fairly light soil and water thoroughly once. \ery little-water will be required afterwardsuntil the plants have become wellestablished. Cannas treated in thisway can be brought on early, andgive immediate results when plantedout. The pots of these can be stooddown on the walks to start them, ifthe situation is not too dark, andcare is taken that they do not gettoo much water. The possibilities-of the canna as a summer decorativeplant are only commencing to berealized. The recent introductionsof dwarfer growing, large floweringplants will assist greatly in advanc-ing their present popularity. It is-quite possible, taking the coleus asan example in this respect, that wemay see as great an advancement

Imagine a canna of dwarf-er habit than the Charles Hender-son (three feet), a spike of flowers-equal to the flowers of the Bur bankCanna, and folias^e that will viewith the beautiful markings andrich coloring of a pandanus veitchii,or of a spotted difienbachia, or withthe deep rich shadings of a maranta ;and you will have an imaginaryglimpse of what I predict will be anear approach to the ideal canna ofthe future. But this is predictionand not seasonable notes on the cul-ture of the canna.Annual Larkspur. The foHagc of the cauna, espe- cially when young, is very tender,,,and on that account requires care on first taking the plants out of doors.
