south.The long goats wool used for hair on these masks is tied with juccaribbons, so that the eyeholes of the mask may not be covered. TheKojemshi (see plate v a),* who have charge of the bunches of giantyucca, hand a bunch to each Sayahlia (see plate xvi). One of the boys is a Sia youth, who is included in the number to beinitiated in order that the Sia Indians may use the Koyemshi maskswhich they possess, all who formerlj had this privilige being nowdead. This boy is accompanied to Zuiii by one of the principal rainpriests and two theurgists of his tribe. The director of the Shu-maakwe fraternity was chosen as his godfather. As this youth hasnot received in\oluntary initiation in Zuiii. he must pass througha more extended ceremonial than the others. He is the first onebrought forward. oin the plate the Heiwa kiwisine occupies only the left-hand portion, reaching nearly to thewindow. • Although the masks of the ten Kojemshi are similar, each one has its special knob and mouthforms.
