ANIMAL EFFIGIES AND IDOLS HEAD FROM MOUNDS 2 AND 6, SANTA RITA GANN) CONTENTS OP MOUND 2 681 and one iiiiniediutely uhuve it. They vary in liiigtli from 5i- to 6^inches. The bodies of two of them are colored red throuuhout, theother three are unpainted. Tlie eyes of all are colored Mack, the eye-brows light lilue outlined in black, and the no.se red. At the fore-part of the body on either side are two human hands and arms,the former tightly closed. The mouth is widely open, and from itprotrudes a human head, which the animal is apparently in the actof swallowing. The face belonging to this head is colored light blue,the mouth and lips red, and the eyes and eyebrows black (see platexxxA. 1). In the ear.s are large round earrings, which, having caughtin the angle to the turtles mouth on either side, are apparently givinghim some difficulty in swallowing the head.
