changed to a schist, it is neverthelesstremendously fractured, and intersected by iiin.umeralde cracks which cut therocks at a great numl)er of angles. While such changes are not common, it maybe noted that in certain areas the Keewatin is altered to schist. One of thesemetamoriDhosed areas occurs at the rapids on Victoria creek on L. 2601. Not onlyis the Keewatin schistose in this vicinity, but the feldspar-porphyry dike is alsoschistose, showing that the rocks were altered, in ))art at any rate, after the intru-sion of the feldspar-porphyry dike. There is a small outcrop of banded cherty rock at the roadside on the we-tboundary of L. 258G. At the northwest corner of claim L. 2589 there is a band of ankerite rock100 feet or more in width. It first outcrops at the dam at the foot of Beaver-house lake and strikes to the southwest. This rusty rock was noted by W. G. Map No. 29d. To accompany report by C. W. Knight in Volume 29, Ontario Bureau of Mines Report, 1920. 1920 Argfonaut Gold Mine 69 Miller^ in 1901 and ))y W. J. Wil^oir in tiie same year, also by W. A. Park> m1904. Tlie ankerite band consists of Keewatin rocks through which the ankerite isdisseminated in grains. The mineral also occurs in numberless, irregular veinletswliich intersect the Keewatin in a most complex manner. These veinlets varyfrom fractions of an inch to several inches in width. Here and there are irregularstringers of quartz carrying pyrite and copper pyrites. The quartz veins are huta few inches in diameter. Judging from the outcrop at the dam, the ankerite appears to be dippingtowards tlie northwest. It would he unwise, however, to infer from the structureat the dam that the whole band of ankerite dips in that direction. It will rerpiirediamond-drilling or underground workings to find out definitely the directionof the dip. Considerable trenching and lilasting has l)e(n done al
