Forest, Fish and Game Commission 125 Much of this region is adapted to the growth of conifers. Largeareas of contiguous territory are found in the northern half of thecounty that has a sandy soil and that offers unsurpassed oppor-tunity for the production of conifers. This territory should beplanted with the various species of pine also spruce. The remainder of the county contains much land that should beforested though occurring in smaller parcels. It is also adapted tothe growth of conifers but I would favor the planting of Norwayspruce in preference to the pines. These lands are also adapted to the production of deciduousspecies. The basswood and maple particularly will pay to propagateand favor wherever possible, the maple as a basis for the sugarindustry and the basswood for its valuable timber and also as asource for the su
