(97) 9S Bureau of Mines No. 5 latter rock is considered to be com-posed of volcanic ejectamenta—grainsand fragments of rocks of various kindswhich have become consolidated. Theslatts conglomerate of older Canadianwriters, Logan and Murray, is a vari-ety. The slate along the railway cuts,in the vicinity of Long lake, occasion-ally contains fragments of pink gran-ite, which are, at times, a couple ofinches or more in diameter. On thefaces of some of the vertical cliffs, thewell-banded slate at the bottom is foundto pass gradually into massive breccia-conglomerate at the top, the fragmentsin the latter being of varied composi-tion and ranging in size, from smallgrain-like fragments to pieces of rocka foot in diameter. The presence of dikes or sheets ofsome of the darker-colored eruptives wassuspected, but they were not definitelyrecognized.
