But, as all of our various departments of labor and expenses run soclose together, and oftentimes intermingle, and are also paid out of onecommon treasury, it is difficult always to keep all accounts exact to eachdepartment. I suppose, if an exact line of separation could be drawn inthe above business, that after all our trouble and expense, and countingthe interest on the principal invested, there was no profit at all. So, in the midst of all these discouragements, the question of an iceplant, and manufacturing our own ice, is one of interest and importance.

The old trees die, and unless we continue to plant,our grounds, now so interesting and attractive, will become nude andbarren. What would our Main Avenue now be but that a few years agolines of maples, but little larger in diameter than your thumb, were setout on either side, and now developed into majestic trees, which are theadmiration of all who enter our grounds. TWENTY-FIRST ANNUAL REPORT. -21 Let me exhort all who own property at Ocean Grove to see to it thatthe years do not pass without attention to this important and beautifulwork. Fifty trees were, bought last year. Twenty-one were set out forprivate parties, and the balance on Association grounds.
