stalls for horses immediately in the rear of the appar-tus room with automatically opened doors to stalls. To the frontand side of the apparatus room is the telephone room and sittingroom for the members of the department. Back of this is theroom containing the Chiefs wagon and horse, and in the rear ofthis is the wagon and horse of the electrician and line repairer.Back of the horse stalls is the repair shop of the department. The second floor consists of the dormitory for the men sit-ting room, library, chiefs private office, room for the fire alarminstruments, bath room, hay loft, etc. The number of men sta-tioned here are fourteen. The building, a substantial brick structure with a liberalamount of cut stone trimmings is heated with furnace and com-bination hot water system. The lot upon which the buildingstands (lot 31 County addition, 70x150 feet) was bought by thecity in 1892 for $5,000. The engine house was erected in 1893 ata cost of $12,000. This hoiise located on Wallace street between Lafayette street,and Clay street, has a frontage of 50 feet by 60 feet deep and is asubstantial brick building trimmed with cut stone. On the groundfloor is an apparatus room, containing a steamer, hose-wagon, hoo)<and ladder truck, stalls for six horses, with an extra box for sickhorses, while the second floor is occupied with dormitory, readingroom, bath room, hay loft, etc. Eight men are stationed here. The house was built in 1885 costing $3,000.00. In 1889 anaddition to it was built costing $2,000. The lot (No. 206 Lewisaddition, 50x150 feet) was bought in 1870 for $1,050.
