Novelty SuprLEJiExx. PEARL OF SAVOY POTATO. Although the Pearl of Savoy Potato was offered by us for the first time in 1884, its reputation has already become almo^ t national, and we feel justified in claiming for it the premier po-ition as an extra early variety of wonderful productiveness and superior quality. During the past season this seedling has been subjected to the most trying tests in different sections of the country in competition with some of the most highly lauded varieties in cultivation, and we have yet to learn where the Pearl of Savoy, subjected to the same treatment, has failed to prove its superiority over all others. The season of 1885 was an extremely unfavorable one for potatoes, owing to their rotting badly, which of course had a deteriorating effect upon the crops of those competing for the premiums which we had offered; however, we think that most of our patrons will agree with us that a yield of 660 bushels on one acre, taking into consideration the season, can be indeed regarded as remarkable. In fact it is'within six bushels of the yield which was awarded the first premium last season. The Vegetable Committee of the Massachusetts Horti- cultural Society, who made the awards last season, kindly consented to act in a similar capacity the present year, and after careful examination and comparison of the various samples and affidavits accompanying the same, rendered their decision as follows ;
Text Appearing After Image:

Samuet> Hartwell. Warren Heustis. Chas. E. Grant. C. H. i)RACKETT. James Comley. We shall continue the present year to offer the Pearl of Savoy to our patrons as our leading Potato, confident that we could not select any other sort which would so surely give satisfaction to the cultivator in every section of the country. Our stock the present season is especially fine, and we think in some respects superior to anything ever offered before, as it is our aim each year to improve the quality of this Potato by careful selection and cultivation. Price, per peck, 75 cts.; per bushel, $2.00 ; per barrel, $5.00.
