This is conducted by appointment shortly afterschool opens. Any illness necessitating absence from classes must be reported tothe Health Service. 26 DENTAL MEDICINE Fees and Expenses An estimate of total yearly expenses shows that the average costof the school year is $3,000 for each academic year. This estimate in-cludes tuition, medical health fee, board and room, books, laundry andincidentals. The fees are: —For matriculation, $5; for medical health fees, $74for each year; for instruction (including laboratory charges exceptmicroscope rental, breakage, damage and loss of apparatus), $1,500.Term bills are issued approximately every two months. Microscopes are available for rental each year. During the thirdand fourth year, students rent a set of dental instruments from the RESEARCH ACTIVITIES IN THE SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE

HARVARD UNIVERSITY School for a nominal fee, which may vary according to the value ofthe instruments. Students may purchase instruments at an appreciablediscount through the School if they so desire. A deposit of $50 is required of every new student who accepts aplace in the School of Dental Medicine; this sum is to be applied onhis first term bill or to be forfeited if the student does not register. All indebtedness to the University must be paid by all candidates fordegrees at least one day before Commencement. Any student whose indebtedness to the University remains unpaidon the date fixed for payment is deprived of the privileges of theUniversity until he is reinstated by consent of the Dean, after pay-ment of all indebtedness. A fee of $10 is automatically added to allbills which are unpaid by the due date.
