Itmade a deep impression upon me by its great courtesyand by bringing to my mind what I knew from theprinted material in my possession about the grandeurof your building and the exemplary order governingthe institution under your charge, an institution wherethe establishment of a Russian section is contemplated.If I had sufficient financial means at my disposal andmy affairs were in their former flourishing condition, Iwould in my declining years give my books, after aRussian custom, to one of our public institutions orpresent them to the Library of Congress with the soleidea of establishing closer relations between the twonations.
