In 1850, the finance com-mittee, of which from the very commencement thepastor had been the chairman, made their final report,announcing the entire payment of the whole cost ofthe edifice and its fixtures. Tlie thanks of the con-gregation were expressed, in their recorded resolution,to the chairman and members of the committee, anda substantial acknowledgement made to the chairman,for having kept all the accounts of the committee, anda separate account with each pew-holder. His joywas not small, when this load of care was removed,and which he never could have consented to bear,had it not been so pressed upon him by the Consisto-ry, that he could not refuse. In 1851, a movement was begun in the matter oferecting a new parsonage house, the old one showingevident signs of decay. A wing was added to this newstructure, rendering it now quite convenient and com-fortable, and a pleasant domicil for a pastors familj.The entire cost of the house, with its well and otherjB-xtures, was three thousand nine hundred and forty-four dollars and eighty cents. The subscriptions re-ceived towards its erection, amount to fom-teen hun-di*ed and two dollars. It will thus be perceived, that this congregationhave successively reared three substantial stonechurches—had only three pastors, and have ownedthree parsonage houses. The subsequent history in this volume, will showthat at least seven new Reformed Dutch Churcheshave been constituted, in whole or in part, from thepeople of the congregation of Bergen, while thismother of churches is stronger in numbers—in influ-ence—in liberality and usefulness, than ever.
