The principal actor in the erection of Old Zion was Dr.William R. Ross. Ross was one of the first settlers at FlintHills, as that vicinity was then called. He was on the groundwhen there was nothing there but a string of cabins at thelanding, which was known as Pin Hook. In 1833 he broughtthe first stock of goods to the place. There were a numberof honorable firsts to his name. He was the first post-master, justice, and clerk of the court there. Through himthe first preacher, Rev. Barton H.
