( «9 ) Planche soixante-cinquième. — Homère et Virgile. Bas-reliefs; par M. Chaudet. Ces bas-reliefs , placés au-dessous de la Victoire quifait le sujet de la planche précédente, décorent, lunà gauche, lautre à droite , une des croisées de lattiquedans la cour du Louvre. A gauche est la figure dHomère, de grandeur co-lossale. Il est assis sur un siège sans dossier, et vêtudun ample manteau qui ne laisse à découvert que lesbras et une partie de la poitrine. Sa tête est ceintedune couronne de lauriers. Son front élevé vers leciel, lorsque sa paupière est affaissée, rappelle uiimouvement habituel aux personnes privées de la vue ,et concourt dautant plus à lexpression du sujet. Homèrea le pied gauche posé sur un marche-pied porté pardeux griffons, et soutient sur son genou sa Ijre dontil tire des sons. Devant lui est un enfant ailé et sou-tenu dans les airs : le casque en tête, armé de deuxjavelots et dun bouclier, il embouche la trompe guer-rière , et figur
