PALMIEI'.S DE MADAGASCAR i.v> Dans la Heur femelle, qui est verte, les sépales ont sensiblement la même forme générale et les mêmes dimensions que dans la fleur mâle, mais ils ne sont que légère- ment carénés vers le haut et ne sont pas éperonnés. Les pétales sont largement ovales, plutôt plus larges (3 millim.) que hauts (2 millim.), faiblement striés, à sommet com- plètement arrondi ou un peu aigu. Les staminodes sont réduits à de très petites dents ovales. Le stigmate de l'ovaire est rejeté latéralement. Les fruits tout jeunes sont presque globuleux : mûrs, ils deviennent obo- voïdes (fîg. 5) et ont 20 millimètres sur 12. Le stigmate est tout à fait basilaire. L'albumen est profondément ruminé. Nous avons dit plus haut que dans le Manon- garivo le palmier s'élève jusqu'à 1.200 mètres ; son revêtement ferrugi- neux semble devenir de moins en moins épais avec 1 altitude. Le bourgeon terminal n'est jamais comestible ; dans le Nord-Ouest les indigènes le croient même vénéneux.
