L'armature buccale des lar- ves des Buprestides est aussi puissamment conformée que celle des Longicornes pour accomplir son rude travail; les mandibules, bidentées à l'ex- trémité, ont la même forme que celles des larves des Longi- cornes ; l'articulation est la même ; dorsalement la man- dibule présente une cavité dans laquelle entre une tête arron- die du cadre buccal; ventrale- ment, elle présente une apo- physe arrondie entrant dans une cavité du cadre buccal ; la face interne est en rapport avec deux longues tiges chiti- neuses, qui s'enfoncent jusque dans la région postérieure de la tête ; à ces tiges s'atta- chent, à 45°, des muscles qui vont s'insérer d'autre part à la région postérieure de la tête ; celle-ci est invaginée presque tout entière sous le prothorax, et cette disposition a pour effet d'augmenter la solidité générale.
