Title
Anglo Saxon square headed brooch
Description
English: Anglo Saxon copper alloy small long brooch dating to the 6th century.

It is a square headed type and appears mostly free from decoration. There are four circular perforations, one in each corner of the head. One of these holes has broken through to the edge. The catchplate and some of the lug remain but the pin is missing. The bow is curved only at the top part close to the head.

The foot is spatulate shaped and has a horizontal line across the lower part. It is slightly broken at the bottom and so has an uneven edge.

It has a mainly green patina but there appears to be some iron corrosion, especially around the lug on the head. Possibly the pin was made of iron.
