Title
Anglo Saxon small long brooch
Description
English: An Anglo-Saxon copper alloy small-long brooch (AD500-550). The head plate has been notched around the central square to form a cruciform shape with T-shaped arms. The arms are decorated with multiple irregular lines bordering the long edges. The arched bow has parallel sides and the front surface is rounded with a central carination. The bow is squared up at the extremities producing faceted corners. The back is hollowed. The foot originates in a flattened area below the bow. A cast moulding forming four bands separates the upper part of the foot from the terminal. The terminal is expanded and forms a crescentic outline. On the reverse is a single perforated hinge located in the centre of the headplate and a large catchplate located at the top of the foot just below the bow. The pin is no longer present. Very dark green patina.
