Anglo Saxon sceat, obverse
Description
English: Anglo Saxon sceat, c.675-c.750, standard series. The obverse shows a degraded bust facing right with hair consisting of curved lines with pellets at the "roots", and straight lines and pellets representing the face. This is sometimes referred to as a porcupine type of bust. The reverse shows a square standard with a beaded border and an annulet in the centre flanked by four short lines. Weight 1.06g, diameter 12.2mm. See North, 1963, English Hammered coinage Vol 1, no.45, p34, fig 1.19.
